Facebook Tests Its Internet Beaming Plane

Yes, you read that correctly. Facebook announced its first test flight of the high altitude solar airplane, Aquila, and it was a success. The company released a 3:00 minute video showing the launch and explaining the goal of this new airborne Facebook machine. Facebook is hoping to use Aquila to beam connectivity down from an altitude of more than 60,000 feet using laser communications and millimeter wave systems to those communities previously without internet. This project is part of Facebook’s initiative to provide internet access to the people and places around the world without access. Like Google, Facebook has the money to research moonshot projects like this and we’re excited to see where they’re headed next.

Let us know what you think of the mobile game taking the world by storm and what your favorite catch has been so far. Go Team Mystic!

Twitter Now Lets Anyone Request a Verified Account

It’s finally happened. The once coveted Twitter Verified Blue Check is available to the general public. Starting this week, the company will let users request a verified account on its website by filling out a form with a verified phone number and email address, a profile photo, and government ID. While the application is open to the general public, Twitter still has to deem whether your account is of public interest so don’t expect every account to get the blue check. This new feature is clearly targeted at rising influencers looking to improve their credibility. We’re interested to see how the influx of new verified users impacts the community.
