LPP Kraków headquarters with BREEAM certificate

LPP Kraków headquarters with BREEAM certificate

The Kraków headquarters of LPP, which houses the design offices of the House and Mohito brands, has passed the BREEAM certification requirements – one of the most widely used methods for assessing buildings in terms of their compliance with environmental standards. The sustainable construction solutions implemented in the facility are one of the elements of the company’s “For People For Our Planet” strategy for 2020-2025 which provides that all new LPP buildings will be BREEAM or LEED certified by 2023.

From the outset, the design of the Kraków headquarters of LPP, commissioned in 2020, was consistent with the idea of implementing more environmentally-friendly solutions. This is one of the elements of the Gdańsk company’s actions within the framework of its Sustainable Development Strategy “For People For Our Planet” for 2020-2025, adopted in 2019, in which it had committed itself to successively reducing its impact on the environment. Not only does LPP pursue its objectives by increasing the share of more and more environmentally friendly collections in its offer, or by producing clothes while maintaining a model based on reducing water and energy resources in the manufacturing process, but it also plans to completely eliminate single-use plastic from packaging, maintain chemical safety in production, as well as implement sustainable development in its buildings and sales network.

– In order to respond to the climate challenges of today, we cannot focus solely on one area of our business – so we have also included an action programme focused on our own infrastructure in our sustainability strategy. We want our buildings, both office and warehouse facilities, and our sales network to be more environment-friendly, less energy-consuming and at the same time equipped with solutions ensuring their low-emission character – explains Łukasz Piwoński, Administrative and Technical Director, LPP.

The Polish clothing manufacturer has implemented a number of state-of-the-art sustainable construction solutions in the Kraków building, including a recuperation system for heat recovered from exhaust air, and a system for the elimination of so-called particulate matter, which is one of the most harmful atmospheric pollutants. Care has also been taken to reduce the building’s energy consumption by equipping it with a Building Management System (BMS) which allows for a full implementation of the building’s energy management system. The system controls the operating parameters of individual devices, reduces energy consumption and, at the same time, ensures full comfort of use of the building. Care has also been taken to eliminate excessive consumption of water resources by installing specialised fittings in toilets in order to control water outflow.

– The construction of the Kraków headquarters was one of our first experiences with sustainable construction. We wanted the building not only to meet environmental requirements, but also to be a friendly, functional and comfortable workplace for our people. For that reason, we equipped it with spacious, conference rooms and relaxation areas with state-of-the-art design. The employees may also enjoy a restaurant and a cafeteria area and the whole is complemented by a rich sports infrastructure – a mini gym, a basketball court and a beach volleyball court – points out Łukasz Piwoński.

The Kraków headquarters of LPP is already the second office building of the Polish manufacturer to obtain a BREEAM certificate. In January this year, the company commissioned a new office building in the Fashion Lab complex in Gdańsk, which passed the certification and will additionally be powered by wind energy as of 2023. At the beginning of 2022, the company also plans to obtain BREEAM for its new Distribution Centre in Brześć Kujawski, where a number of sustainable construction solutions have been applied, including a photovoltaic installation that will power the building with solar energy.
